WTF can't these things ever go smoothly? Uninstalled my old ati 9.12 using setup uninstall feature. Downloaded and tried to install 13.1. Setup tells me it has "detected an incomplete build and will now exit." That is far as I can get. Frustrated now as I can't get anything to happen. Not worth the headache. Guess I'm out until a solution is resolved.

Hmm.. honestly, these issues don't exist with NVIDIA cards, which are far superior. You should look at the 660TI man! I just nuts-canned my HIS HD 6950 and went back to NVIDIA and couldn't be happier.

Something just didn't install or uninstall completely. We used a dedicated AMD driver cleaner and got him running with 13.1, but he is noticing screen tearing. We tried 12.10 and 12.8, which is what I'm on with my 7850, but same issue persists for him. He has the V-sync (Wait for vertical refresh) on, but it seems to just not be working with his 5870. That setting is specifically what prevents the screen tearing with movement.
Hackl, since it was your conf.ini Open GL settings that were causing the big graphics issues from before, not the drivers, have you tried going back to 9.12 and see if the tearing stops with the "Wait for vertical refresh" set to Always On? I'm assuming it was working fine earlier with 9.12, as you just noticed the tearing after updating. I'm hoping it's just one of those things where an older card shouldn't go to the newer drivers after that long.

I moved videosetupid back to 10 and it seems to be much better. we'll see how it goes tonight. Dont know what it does but I can start testing towards a smaller number til it gets bad again...

This is the guide to the VideoSetupId setting (under OpenGL section)
VideoSetupId=?
0 - Safe Settings 1 - Default Settings 2 - Maximum Settings 3 - NVidia GeForce 6800/6600/FX/4/3 4 - NVidia GeForce 5200..5900 - 1.x Shaders 5 - NVidia GeForce 4MX 6 - NVidia GeForce 2 GTS/MX/256 7 - NVidia Riva TNT2 8 - ATI Radeon X800/9800/9700/9600/9500 9 - ATI Radeon 8500/9000 10 - ATI Radeon 11 - Intel 915/925 (GMA900) 12 - Kyro II 13 - Matrox G400 14 - 3dfx Voodoo 3 15 - 3dfx Voodoo 5 16 - S3 Savage 4 17 – Custom
Obviously a very outdated list, so I just run 2, Maximum. But whatever works.

You're going to love the SSD. I have a 120GB playing BF3 and I consistently load up first in game because of it.

Excellent choice going with the Samsung SSD. Speed and reliability without compromise. They're not cheap, but also aren't too insane anymore. I went with the 256GB Samsung 830 when I put this one together last September. Makes a very noticeable difference in load times of just about everything. CPU and RAM have always been the combo for speed, but SSDs make a big difference when you're used to the bottleneck of HDDs. You won't regret this purchase.

Yeah, I bought my motherboard not planning on it, so it only has SATA 2 as well. Even at just that, it's definitely noticeable.
