Found this when I was making the forum rounds. It uses a webcam as a trackir. All you have to do is make the led fixture. It supports 6DOF if you build the right apparatus. It definitely looks worth checking out before I upgrade from the TrackIR 3 I have. I'm not looking forward to shelling out ~$200. If you wanted to use it solely for IL2 all you would need is 1 LED and a power source. It would be pretty simple and light with some wire and a car-alarm fob battery. Probably cost you $5 not including the webcam. n.camil.chez-alice.fr/index.php

Me too, but mine is first gen 6DOF (TIR3Pro w/ VectorClip) , its probably low number on the serial production too. The 6DOF never really worked well even brand new. It has a very narrow field of view (feels like about a 5 deg, 2dof has about 20). I spent about 1/2 of what a new one costs on the TIR3.
If there is an alternative out there that costs 5% of what a new one would, its worth exploring for me. I know a few others in the squad are turned off by the high price tag too.
Natural point makes an exceptional product and I've had nothing but good things to say about them. But if I can save $150 and play with my soldering iron, well that's just fun.
