I saw this on the IL2 General forum and tried it out and it helped decrease stutters when planes enter and leave visual range for me. IL2 uses java to script certain events and Microsoft's JVM that comes with windows is crap. If you've update windows in the past 6 months or so, you probably already have Sun's JVM, but here's the link just incase. java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jspDownload the J2SE 5.0 JREFollow the steps after that and install it normally, you will not have to remove anything. Don't worry about any security issues, it is more secure than Microsoft's JVM so its a step up from what you had. JDK and IDE have additional resources for programmers so unless you feel like writing something in java, you don't need them. I didn't notice anything considerable different. I was running v1.4.2 before. Ofters have said they've noticed huge differences from Microsofts JVM.

S!, I read that on Simhq. Some people have noticed a massive jump up in FPS with the download. Others say there is no difference.

Even though I updated windows not too long ago I still had the old version. I installed this but didn't see a big improvement. Maybe a little over large cities online but that might just be my imagination. I'd love to know if there are any sort of tweaks related to java that would help improve stutters.

My computer use to pause for about 1/2 a second when a new plane entered visual range. The pause now is hardly noticeable.
