Last night was one of the worst monsoons in the history of Phoenix. Right after I left training the lightning really started. It was like strobe light outside, strikes every quarter/half second. The thunder was a low continuous rumble. It reminded me of the War of the Worlds remake. I have a covered porch on my apartment and during most of the night all I could see off the porch was a sheet of water from the roof to the ground. I couldn't even see the next building over that is less than 25ft away. The 2nd storm that rolled in was more traditional and parked directly over Mesa. It was still raining pretty heavily but the thunder was so loud and close it rattled the walls and window panes. I was scared a couple times that it would break them. It was the first time I can remember being scared to go outside because of weather. News Article
