Now I'm going nuts trying to locate a copy in Canada. Worst comes to worse I will order it from the U.S.

Just got it in the mail today and installed it, and boy it is ever graphic intense. I have to run it on lowest settings to get playable FPS. Looks like I'll have to look into a new video card as well as Track IR to make this worth while.
So far I am impressed with the level of detail they have put into the game and aircraft so far.

I flew my third mission on Sunday evening. Of course I fly without any aids at all and it really is turning out to be a 'right hand wheel, left hand track' type navigation excercise. My first mission was an escort for a Rumpler observation plane which didn't go all that well and I ended up landing in a field about 1 km from home base after getting shot up. But this last mission I flew was balloon busting and the first time I overflew the front lines. All I can say is that ROF is truly an awesome sim period. The level of immersion is incredible. The wind noise, the birds chirping before take off, the reflections in the water, the flak and artillery shells exploding here and there, the smoke haze over the front lines, the clouds and weather fronts (which are truly dangerous without any way to tell if you are right side up or not and you can be stuck in a cloud for what seems like an eternity), and the windmilling sound of the enemy plane's propeller as you fight it out makes IL-2 seem more than a little out of date, mods or not. Now if I could just find some flyers who would agree not to use TS while in flight, I'd be even happier. Might just have to fly against AI if I really want WWI type immersion. I tell you what though, it really makes me excited to think what SOW will be like.

The planes are more difficult to control as well. Aside from simple engine management, I have the flight model set to hard and boy, it is hard as heck to hit a Nieuport 28 that is turning with you much less in level flight 200m in front. My first mission was balloon busting just over the British reserve trenches in Flanders and I tell you the level of detail on the lowest setting I have is beyond amazing. You can even see the shells bursting in no mans land. I'm looking forward to upgrading my computer (when the money comes in) so I can finally train myself on this game.

Yea, I agree it's much harder. My guns even jammed on me and I had to recock. A little later one of them jammed and I had to put the spad down with one gun. Really something. Let me know when you're ready and we'll fly together!

Well, after upgrading my computer with my GTS 250, Rise of Flight is now running with everything turned on. For those interested, I am running at the following settings:
Screen Resolution: 1680x 1050 (16:10) Anti aliasing: 4 times with vertical sync Fullscreen mode: Check
Quality Settings Landscape: High Grass: High Trees: High Shadows: High Reflection: High Textures: High Filter: Anisotropic 8x
Post Effects Bloom: Check Post saturation: Check Drops: Check Blood: Check
Video Memory usage: 74%
There is no lag (perhaps a stutter here and there for a second or two but I believe this is related to my CPU loading all the ground objects). I have been going through the training missions and figured out how to run the engine on full realism settings as well as landing and take-off. I also managed to find my way to the front line, evade flak, and pop my first balloon and make it home safely...boy what a thrill ride that was!
The only thing that is missing right now is Track IR which I hope to get very soon.

Bombing tanks seems to be the worst of the worst for trying to accomplish in Rise of Flight. Not only does the wind play a huge factor in your aircraft moving around on the dive run (and your bombs as they fall) but you have to score a direct hit. After four attempts at it in the training mission, I disabled a tank in one try, and the next I set it on fire but did not destroy it completely. Makes me wish I had a 500kg ;D.

Shame I haven't devoted more time to flying the sim. I have passed all but one of the training missions at full switch and boy do you have to be careful when flying those aircraft. Forget to close the radiators when you dive and your engine is screwed less than a minute afterwards.
I can't wait to take the Dr 1 up, I have been waiting for it since the game was still in beta testing and posting pictures.

A few nights ago I did my 6th career mission in a Pfalz DIIIa. I'm doing about one a week and haven't done too well up until the last two missions (although I'm still alive). The last mission was by far the most fun and involved crossing the front lines with the main objective the destruction of an enemy balloon. Sensory overload recrossing the front lines with all the flak! There were five of us lifting off and I was the only one to make it back to base. A lot of fog of war in this sim too (I wish there was a bit more in FS). I saw what happened to three of my comrades, but have no idea about the fourth. Last time I saw him he was circling the crash- landed plane of our leader. The only real problem is the AI are just too accurate, they actually make the ace AI level in Il-2 look more like veterans. You can't let them take a shot at you AT ALL. I sure hope they fix this soon as it makes for unrealistic flying as you have to go to ground level to fight it out so as to limit their ability to take a shot at you without hitting the ground. Still it's great fun!
