Do you guys ever fly clod anymore? I am reading that it is quite good now with the latest updates. I'd love to try it at some point I think. Haven't really looked into whether or not there's much going on with it in MP yet. Look at some of the pictures this Fifi guy posted over at BOS. He's got one of the new better than HD monitors, but still . . . it's amazing. forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/2756-il2-cliff-dover-now-very-good/Plus this video is quite good. AKA_Recon gets shot down in it towards the end. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1K3Un2ox9MAnyway, was thinking it would be nice to fly with you guys again, just don't want to go back to 46. Stachl

I just have a problem playing on a game that has been as abandoned as that one. That game is dead. Dead is dead! I've got all my cards invested in BoS. I sure hope it's as good as the Alpha suggests!

I never bought clod to begin with, so I couldn't join you there... but I have to say, the new 46 patch +HSFX spruced things up pretty nice if you think you might want to check it out.

Apparently you can get the game now for about $10 on steam and it does all the updates automatically. Sure is nice looking.
This last weekend I flew the 109F in BOS and liked it. The planes (109 cockpit) and map are absolutely fabulous looking, it looked sooooo cold. As usual there is quite a debate going on about the FM which never changes. For sure the ground handling, takeoff and landing are pretty cool. Very twitchy handling during flight and is hard to shoot other planes at first because of it. Like anything you get better with practice. I think, judging by ROF, that these guys are going to provide us with quite a simulation when done. It's only 35% complete and I'm already pretty happy with it.
I am going to look into Clod a bit more. ROF is only fun once a week these days and you have to fly during the afternoon on Sundays' to take part in the 'vintage mission' with the Europeans. Have had a lot of fun doing this as there are usually 50+ pilots fighting it out. I love the knife fights that you sometimes get into with the WWI kites.
Later
Overall I think BOS is gonna be a lot of fun.

CLOD may be the best single experience flight sim available right now. The guys that picked it up after 1C jumped ship seem to have done a really nice job from what I can tell, tying up many loose ends. The issue is its long term prospects aren't nearly as good as the official support BOS is going to get. When that actually takes off, I expect that will be the place to be. Until then CLOD certainly has better FM, control systems, graphics, etc than old IL-2, but it's a single scenario. What I'm always in search of is the online war experience. Being part of a team, working towards some common goal in an organized fashion. That's what makes this game fun to me, and what keeps my interest over the long term. Old IL-2 still dominates the opportunities for such an experience, despite being very long in the tooth in other respects.
I could fly CLOD like I'd fly on HL in Spits/109s. Which is to say, it might be fun here and there for an evening, but I don't see it keeping my interest in any way close to what GS does. So I just don't do it. If I have an open night that isn't reserved for actually flying a GS mission, but I'm still going to spend it on the computer doing something with game(s), I'm probably working on something to make GS better.
This is perhaps one of the benefits of what we're likely heading towards with GS, backing off to 2 missions per week. For those who still want to keep that night for flying, maybe we can fly CLOD, or when BOS is further along, start working ourselves into that together.

Ok everyone thanks for the opinions. Sounds like maybe, maybe not sort of thing which is ok with me. I might get that steam version of Clod and 'maybe' fly some with you guys over the winter. If not for sure we are going to want to fly BOS together come spring time. Believe me, it's really going to be the new WWII simulation of choice. Yea, three missions a week is a lot of work for you Stecher. I don't know how you do it.
