I bought the game a year ago and haven't played around with it much since then. There have been some impressive updates to it in the mean time and I have heard of other IL2 German units expanding into it. Has anyone else tried the game out yet ?

I like it a lot! Of course it's much newer than IL-2 and so there is no GS equivalent yet. But otherwise it's not much different than HL servers, there just aren't as many. In fact the majority of the servers tend to lean MORE towards realistic whereas I wouldn't say that if you look in HL. I do wish the missions would last longer though. Overall I find WWII era planes more interesting, but I like the WWI style of fighting better. For sure you are gonna wear out your joystick twice as fast flying ROF compared to IL-2 (three times faster if you only fly the Dr 1, haha). Much more manuvering involved.

You are right, Stachl! I bought the DR. 1 and have the realism settings maxed out and boy it was a task just keeping that girl in level flight much less making any maneuvers.
I am curious though, Schnauf and Jacobs, how exactly did Rise of flight get a thumbs down in your opinion ? I haven't tried multiplayer yet as I am trying to get use to flying the aircraft and the game environment.

Sure Molders, ive been fiddling with this game for quite a while (with some old RB buddies incl JJ)
First off, there is something seriously wrong with the business model cause there is absolutely no incentive for the developers to create the planes that are needed most to recreate historical campaigns (let me just name a few of them : Be2c, Re8, Alb C series and many others - no one is gonna buy those
Secondly, the offline campaign mode is very repetitive and predictable (there are only a few mission types - try it and you'll know what I mean. The developers have promised to release a dynamic campaign, but they seem tto have forgotten about (Im suspecting they are not interested in releasing free content
As for the online mode, the missions are woefully short, servers are choppy and keep crashing if there are too many ground objects or planes in the air, but what really kills me is the fact that the game doesn't generate any eventlogs like the ones we have in IL2 In other words forget about dynmaic campaigns like FS or GS Did I miis anything? sry bud, you can see my frustration Anyways, glad to be back to WW2 action

Interesting you mention that Schnauf, I remember reading that they would introduce a dynamic campaign once the game was released and running smoothly.
You are right about planes that are missing but they do seem to be dipping back into earlier times. They have an Eindecker E.III out now alongside an Airco DH.2. Perhaps the B.e. 2 will be next ?
I find myself sometimes playing Red Baron 3d, though somewhat modified for the addition of extra content, planes, and better realism. I could not, and still cannot get over how addictive the game play is in that game. I really wish they would update the graphics engine for it and leave the rest alone. What fun it was to be involved in my online unit with that game where we played a campaign system that was very similar to Ghost Skies. I, however, was on the Allied side flying Nieuports at the time but how I wanted to be on the Axis team flying the Albatros.
Perhaps something will come of Rise of Flight ? I would love to see some sort of Ghost Skies style campaign and mod system develop for it, I would be in there in a heart beat once I get use to flying on Ace settings.
Oh, by the way, your signature appears under your name for me.
