Yeah, Stachl, there's a thread on it at the GS forums. It's a bit of mixed news I think. Any progress on CloD is down the tubes. But maybe this is long term hope that a true sequel series to IL-2 will happen. We're still years away from replacing this game though.

Yea, I suppose. Seems everyone feels that way on the ROF forums too. They are afraid it will take away new development from ROF. Guess I should visit the GS forums too. Cheers!

They merged the team's and are supposed to work on both ROF and new IL-2 together. Concerns are valid that the smaller market WWI will mean it takes a back seat to the WWII content. At the same time, having more people to work on things which share the same game engine might allow them to get more planes and maps out for both games. Overlapping workloads means some of it can be eliminated for a portion of the team, who can spend their time on stuff that otherwise would not have been done. I don't know much about the ROF engine first hand, but I keep hearing that the physics, graphics, damage model, etc are very good, but it lacks the game options and online multiplayer scope that even old IL-2 has, let alone what they were doing with CloD. My big hope is that the 1C team will bring those features into the existing and much more stable 777 game engine. That would be the best case scenario.

Stecher, Well said . . . as usual. Yea the most important things that 777 needs to work on are the FMs and making MP better. I think MP is more important so that we can get more wars going like your Ghost Skies, that's when this will really be fun. However, a lot of these guys put FMs as the most important and complain that they want the handling of the planes as close as possible to the real thing, and then they turn around and use TS air to air comms. It's a laugh, although actually it just makes me want to cry. If they can get BOS up and working, it will simply be unbelievable! I can hardly wait to see what flying a 777 Bf 109 G2 will be like. If it's the same quality as ROF, I think I will be in sim heaven. Speaking of 109s. I appreciate the invite guys. That would have been fun flying cover for you guys in a 109, but it wouldn't be something I could do right off the bat and I see I'm a bit late getting back to you. I need to get in here more often. Sorry about that!

We started back up on Friday after the holiday break, and last mission we were alone in the south again, and were outnumbered. It wouldn't have been too bad but they finally had really high cover. We've bloodied their noses a couple times down there in low altitude bounces. So they've learned, and we couldn't really go down to hit their attackers without exposing ourselves to Spits and 38s that the 190s can't do much with above 7K. Having even just a single 109, flying separately at the highest altitudes, but working with us, would help either occupy or push down their top cover and allow us to be more aggressive at medium/low altitudes where most of them are. Derring did a good job at it in the 190, but I'd much rather not have one of our regular 190s pulled away leaving only 2 or 3 of us in the main flight. Seriously, if you want to come fly a 109, you can work the rust off as you go. It can't be any worse than a non-existent 109. So if you feel up for it, jump on TS some night and we'll get the game set up. After Tuesday's mission, there will be 9 missions left before we go over to Allied, and then who knows where the next campaign will be. They're talking early Battle of France, Barbarossa, hypothetical Anglo-American vs Soviet, Arab-Israeli 1948, all kinds of stuff. Just brain storming at this point, but competitive 109s are around right now for a few weeks.

Ok, I guess I'd be willing to give it a try. I'll be on TS Thursday night? Or what night? Right now I have a copy of the game, version 4.10.1m. There's some JSME stuff in it so I guess that means it's not usuable, so I would have to start with the DVD right? A lot of work and it's been so long I don't know how effective I'd be even in a 109. I just flew my first online mission in a Fokker Dr.1 Saturday (did quite well too ) but point is it's exactly the opposite of what I'll be getting back into. Lots of turning, rudder, and much slower. Let me know where, what, and when. Over in ROF they are finally realizing they need to start something like Ghost Skies too. According to the developers they have available to them all the tools that would be needed and they also say the tools are even better than what was (is) available to you guys in IL-2. You might want to read some of this instead of listening to 'others' opinions on it. It's an interesting read and it soulds like they are really serious about it now. riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=347&t=34228

I have to admit it, I just can't get into IL-2 anymore. I've forgotten soooo much, it's just been too long. I'd have to be hand walked through everything. I even managed to delete my config file and crack thingy. Quick mission wouldn't work, etc. etc.
Stecher I'd love to fly with you guys again, but I guess it will have to wait until 777 get the Battle of Stalingrad up and running. See you guys later, was fun hearing all your voices again. I was too pissed off to say anything on TS.
Happy flying everyone!
S!
