Hello Gentlemen,
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the Adjutant for the 334th Eagle Squadron of the 4th Fighter Group, and I am also the Liason for the Locked Pit division of the USL and was contacted by 3./JG51_Thyben - many thanks to him for his proactivity
One of the things we've acheived is to set up the United Squadrons League (www.il2league.com) and I would like to invite 3./JG51 to take part in the new season which is planned to start in February.
The league itself involves a short schedule of 5/6 matches against other squadrons within your division followed by a playoff final to decide the title should you be one of the top squads. Matches are 2x45mins on historic maps and involve different planes-sets and theatres with different objectives - they are all battles which are historically accurate where possible and will involve some tactics and planning in order to succeed against your opposite squadron.
Initially we ran the league as Open Pit and it has exceeded all of our expectations, the open pit community really bonded after this first league run. Now we are running both locked and open pit leagues seperately (although you may enter both if you wish) and we are looking to sign up established and respected squadrons like 3./JG51. The most important part of the setup though is the fact that nobody owns it, we run a 'round table' of reps from each squad to decide on everything to do with the league in order that it is agreed and there is no conflict - this has worked out beautifully in practice too. We are, in all senses, a democratic league. Finally, we have commercial sponsorship from NaturalPoint and CH Products so that we have prizes for top performers.
I am aware that you fly regular co-ops and matches versus other friendly squads and you may feel that you are 'booked up', however the league runs are not intended to book you throughout the year! The 'season' is short enough not to eat into your other activities and will also provide more variety for your squadron and may well help you to recruit more pilots should you wish.
If you have some curiousity then please talk to me as I am here as USL Locked Pit Liason to answer and help wherever I can. I can be e-mailed at 334th_Osprey@hindshaw.demon.co.uk, or contacted on our website at www.il2league.com, please post in the forums there, or here in this thread - but best of all I am normally to be found in the evenings of GMT on our Teamspeak server (64.34.180.71:8000 pw eagle).
Finally, I have taken the liberty of mailing your CO, Hptm Stecher, in order that we attempt to fasttrack your application.
Thank you and I hope you can join us
