It looks like there are quite a number of installation problems. Apparently it doesn't let you pick the directory at first. I haven't done it yet, and won't have the time for the whole process until tomorrow, but if you do this, check out the posts in the UBI GD stickies up top if you have problems.
MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR 4.04m FOLDER FIRST!!!!!

Just curious, I've heard that once you get this download, you will have a different version of the game. Is that true ? Is this download required for continued membership, b/c for me, the $20 to pay for close to 200MB is just absurd (already spent enough $ buying the IL2 series).

I got it today. It installs booty box trough which you enter your validation key. After done downloading just go to your c drive program files and find booty folder, there is your exe, just launch it to complete install. Me personally had problem launching game through HL, not sure what i did but seems to be fixed now. I like this ad on, had a lot of fun flying on Winds of war server. Molders i would imagine we should have the same version to be in squad, i mean otherwise we wouldn't be able to fly together as a squad. Ye its absurd to pay for others people work, i understand that, honestly some peepz in this whole il-2 community got spoiled with bunch of free stuff. Does any other games offer free ad ons, don't mean to offend, but lets be real.

If you haven't done it yet, Luthier has a detailed step by step installation walk through.

Hmm, well I was following his, but then it didn't do some stuff that he said to watch for. It looks like it worked though, version on loading screen says 4.05m and it says PE-2 Peshka under Aces, and Pe-2 is in QMB flyable list. It looks like they want us, after everything is installed and working, to take the copied original il2.exe and il2fb.exe and put them back in the folder replacing the BoontyBox altered ones. And then manually uninstall BoontyBox. Weird.

Well its what I feared, a game version change. Any idea if COT IV will be using the 4.05 version ? And is this version required for continued membership in JG51 ? I know I am being a really bad sport but I have lost interest in purchasing all these add-ons.

Yes, it is a version change, and I am sure that just like AEP and PF and every other patch, it will be necessary to have the latest version in order to play online. In my honest opinion, looking at just what we got new in this add-on, a few variants of one plane and some offline stuff, I don't think it is worth $20. BUT, when you consider all the numerous changes, addons, and updates that we have gotten over the last few years that were absolutely free, this is small price to pay for the continued support and development of the IL-2 engine. If it is any consolation, I believe that this is the last paid add-on for the series. As I understand it, after this will follow a free patch/add-on called IL-10, and then another one called VVS '46. Then it is full throttle towards SOW:BoB. I don't know what everyone's financial situation is, but my guess is that if you have the time to sit around and fly this for hours every week, then you probably have $20 bucks sitting around somewhere.

I believe IL-10 and VVS'46 will be pay addons as well. We are still a year away from BOB, and 1c got to live on something untill then.

It looks like they want us, after everything is installed and working, to take the copied original il2.exe and il2fb.exe and put them back in the folder replacing the BoontyBox altered ones. And then manually uninstall BoontyBox. Weird. From what I've pieced together form the ubi and simhq forum, UBI altered the exe's. They increased from ~11kb to over a 1MB. So there is a lot of additional information in those files. The knee jerk reaction is that its a spyware copy protection scheme. But who knows really, there's a lot of "Chicken Little" going on. My guess is that its just another copy protection package that replaced the dreaded starforce. What was really stupid was that UBI released the add-on on a friday only in Europe (I couldn't find it anywhere on the US site). All the reps and tech-support were gone for the weekend before the US market even had a chance to download it. So there's 3-4 days of waiting before there could be any official word anyway. Sounds like pretty bad marketing to me. my guess is that if you have the time to sit around and fly this for hours every week, then you probably have $20 bucks sitting around somewhere. oh no my beer budget btw, I still don't have il2 or a job hopefully soon though, one of my friends is trying to work me into a firm in Phoenix. Not very glamourous but I'll be able to get my masters at ASU while working there.

Beckh, I think you're right. So much for that consolation. Looking around more, there does seem to be one or two planned free patch add-ons in addition to these 3 paid ones. I must have been thinking of that. There's supposed to be a Sicily, or at least some part of Italy coming from this whole slew of things, as well as more of Germany, Manchuria, and Burma. Specter, sorry about the beer. Good luck with that, I hope it works out.

If you guys have not already done this, the only way to get rid of Boonty is to replace il2.exe and il2fb.exe with the ones from 4.04. The game still works fine and without Boonty running in the background! (Sorry if you already knew this but I didn't see it mentioned.)
