I know this is OT, but have any of you tried DoomIII out yet? It is amazing. Even though the gameplay is mid '90s style move-see monster-shoot monster, the presentation blows you away. The graphics are revolutionary and the sound is amazing. This game manages to look better than all the other fps games I've played at a mere 640X480 at low quality! Anyway, let me know if you've played it yet.

I played it. The graphics are terrific, I've never seen anything like them before and there are quite a few tweaks that can be done to the game to make it run with all graphics options turned on at 1024x768 on what I would consider a mid range machine. The immersion factor is oustanding and the sound is intense.
Being a die hard fan of the shooter and spending most of my gaming time with them, I was kind of dissapointed by the game just because, as Spinne said, the game play is early to mid 90s. It was also pretty easy to beat. Each enemy makes a distinctive grunting/growling noise so not only do you know something is coming but you have ample time to pull back and select the right weapon for the job.
The AI is also kinda lacking. Everything just sort of lunges and slashes.
IMHO, this game is a definite buy just to sit and stair at one unbelieveable piece of digital art but I would wait until the price drops below $56.
