Yeah, said about the same to me in email this week. Just really busy, but should get started soon.

Obterzkirt from JG1 a while back. He's flown with Hackl a good bit from those days, and Tepes knows him from Flanker, right?

Great to hear from you Specter. That subconscious Fw 190 tractor beam is hard to resist. We're flying our 7th mission of 20 tonight on the German side of Kiev late '43. So there are still a few weeks of 190s left before we flip. See you soon.

I'm sure we'll have guys in the squad buy the pre-order and get in on the beta test. I know plenty of others who we fly with in GS will be doing that as well. It will be good to hear first hand how it actually is. I don't know if the pre-order plane restrictions will be something that continues through the official release, or if it's just done during the beta period. Also, I don't know what official release pricing will be, higher or lower, or the same? Just not thrilled with the pre-release, and I have plenty to do right now, so I'll hope for the best when the game officially comes out. I have no doubt that this will gradually replace old IL-2 in our schedule when it's running at full speed.

While I said before I don't mind paying more for this one than we have had to for old IL-2, I have to say that $90 is more than I was thinking for 10 planes and presumably one map. I think it has probably cost around $120 total over the last 12 years for what we have now, hundreds of planes and dozens of maps, etc. That's not reasonable to expect for the new one, and such pricing per content would surely not be sustainable for the devs. But this does seem a little steep to me. And 2 of those planes are responsible for the $40 increase over the basic version. But whatever, demand is high and they'll use it to bankroll further development, so I understand.
The thing that really doesn't sit well with me more than the pay to play, is the play to fly, unlocking 2 of the airplanes that I'd already have paid for. What's it to them if I "earn" them or not? Why can't we decide what planes we use and how we use them inside our own game, that we already paid for? Who benefits from forcing us to unlock planes after buying them? I just don't see the reason. I hope this isn't something we'll see with every add-on.
I think I read from them that some add-on content in the future will come in packs, and some will come in 1 or 2 plane increments. So it seems like we will run into various stages of the game for multilayer compatibility, rather than a universal install. This is good for some people to keep costs down if they only play a certain way, but for us, planning on doing online war type of things, it's bad.
The quality of the games graphics and physics engines seem to be very promising, but mission builder functions, large scale multilayer, and active ground AI remain a concern from what I've seen/read so far. I think I'll wait until the official release next spring. I don't think we could do much more than small scale messing around with the beta anyway, and I for one have more than enough things to keep busy on with the current game.

Thanks for the invite Scannon. I think we're about a week away from starting our next campaign, Kiev 43. The design testing has pretty much been completed this past week, and updates have checked out, so we're just in the period of getting the behind the scenes stuff ready to go. That potentially means a few free flying nights from the GS schedule. There's no way we could commit to it as a regular thing at this time. But I may be able to drop in with a couple guys for a few missions this upcoming week. I'll try to get a better idea of how many. Is there a mission on Friday, or will the next one be Sunday?

Hey Scannon. I'd heard about a mod team picking it up and fixing some stuff. That's good that it wasn't just left as it was. Do you know if they have plans to add content, like maps and planes, or are they just staying within the confines of CLOD and making it what it should have been?

Too many bugs, poor performance optimization, and didn't put in all the promised features. It never gathered the following it needed to financially survive and continue to grow into a series as intended. They planned a second installment, focused on the battle for Moscow, and said that they would fix all the existing issues and missing features in that release, but I don't think it ever got off the ground. Joining up with the 777 guys was the only way 1C was going to put out another release. The game engine of ROF is said to be easier to work with in terms of bug fixing and adding features and content, while not being quite as complex as what they were trying to do with CLOD. From what Stachl and others have said about their ROF experiences, it's still a nice step above the original IL-2 engine.

I'm glad to see that this project is indeed progressing, even though it's clearly very early on. I think we're a little more than a year outside their projected release, but I didn't believe that estimate then, and don't now. Really, I just hope they get it right. Modded IL-2 still has plenty of life, but it would be great to really get into a next gen replacement since SOW/CLOD bombed out.

Yup, was hoping Spies noticed everything slowing to a crawl and restarted it, but nothing is coming back up yet. I'm sure he'll get it back up sooner or later.

Yeah, I bought my motherboard not planning on it, so it only has SATA 2 as well. Even at just that, it's definitely noticeable.

Excellent choice going with the Samsung SSD. Speed and reliability without compromise. They're not cheap, but also aren't too insane anymore. I went with the 256GB Samsung 830 when I put this one together last September. Makes a very noticeable difference in load times of just about everything. CPU and RAM have always been the combo for speed, but SSDs make a big difference when you're used to the bottleneck of HDDs. You won't regret this purchase.

This is the guide to the VideoSetupId setting (under OpenGL section)
VideoSetupId=?
0 - Safe Settings 1 - Default Settings 2 - Maximum Settings 3 - NVidia GeForce 6800/6600/FX/4/3 4 - NVidia GeForce 5200..5900 - 1.x Shaders 5 - NVidia GeForce 4MX 6 - NVidia GeForce 2 GTS/MX/256 7 - NVidia Riva TNT2 8 - ATI Radeon X800/9800/9700/9600/9500 9 - ATI Radeon 8500/9000 10 - ATI Radeon 11 - Intel 915/925 (GMA900) 12 - Kyro II 13 - Matrox G400 14 - 3dfx Voodoo 3 15 - 3dfx Voodoo 5 16 - S3 Savage 4 17 – Custom
Obviously a very outdated list, so I just run 2, Maximum. But whatever works.

Something just didn't install or uninstall completely. We used a dedicated AMD driver cleaner and got him running with 13.1, but he is noticing screen tearing. We tried 12.10 and 12.8, which is what I'm on with my 7850, but same issue persists for him. He has the V-sync (Wait for vertical refresh) on, but it seems to just not be working with his 5870. That setting is specifically what prevents the screen tearing with movement.
Hackl, since it was your conf.ini Open GL settings that were causing the big graphics issues from before, not the drivers, have you tried going back to 9.12 and see if the tearing stops with the "Wait for vertical refresh" set to Always On? I'm assuming it was working fine earlier with 9.12, as you just noticed the tearing after updating. I'm hoping it's just one of those things where an older card shouldn't go to the newer drivers after that long.

I tried that when we were testing WOI 2. It was better in some regards, mainly gun volume, but flap and gear volume got really annoying to me. I think it depends on the specific plane though and how it's all balanced. I also had graphical issues when using it, I'd get stuck tracer streams just floating in air. I heard there was a fix for it since then, hopefully incorporated into the version you have.

You wasted no time getting back onto the kill board in the first mission. I've got the GS forum name tag back on, and squad permissions here again. You are already listed in our group on TS, but I think it's a different actual account with the same name. We'll get that cleared tonight. Good to have you back Heiden.
