Hey Schnauf, good to hear from you. We look forward to flying with you again soon. Cliffs of Dover is due out in late March, but we've got a great campaign going right now in Ghost Skies if you want to get some good flying in.

Hey Molders, good to hear from you. That's quite the collection you have going. Nice work on the restorations. Good luck with the flight program out there, it sounds exciting. I hope everything works out for you. Have a Merry Christmas.

Based on what has been shown in the more recent updates and the more serious talk of a deadline for funding versus a guess at completion, I think we will see it by the end of this year. Even if it's not as done as he'd like, they'll finish it with patches.

Has is flown yet? That guy's Youtube account has various videos of the process, but no flying yet. Certainly looking forward to that, as it doesn't look far off.

Cool, thanks. I finally registered last month as they were hiding them from guests for a while, but that puts them all in one place.

Being a compressed small res video, I'm sure I'm missing some of the more subtle improvements, but I can certainly tell how much better the explosions and fires are. Good stuff.

I think that one, Flugwerk Black 1, was the one that crashed a couple weeks ago. Practicing for a show at Hyeres, France, the engine stopped during a barrel roll. He ditched it in the water not too far out. People on jetskies that saw it went and helped cut him out of the straps and brought him to land. He said he went in at about 250km/h, but he is okay. The plane however is under water.
Duxford looks to me like the king of historic air shows. Chino just this past year was probably their best yet. I've got to get back to one of those. There was another 190, this one equipped with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 instead of the Ash-82, doing test flights at Chino last month. It's good to see them rebuilding a group of 190s for shows around the world. It's been an absentee on the historic list for much too long. Can't wait for one to be mated to a BMW 801. I think the F-8 that the White 1 team is working on has that lined up.

Getting caught up with this. For those not up with us, or reinstalling, here are the links for updating your UP 2.0n installation to UP 2.01. Part 1Part 2Part 3Disable everything in your JSGME. Download the 3 parts to a new folder, so that those 3 parts and only those 3 parts are in it. Run the part 1 exe. Make sure the installation is pointed to your main IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 directory.

Hey Klaiber, thanks for hosting. I know we have a few guys that will definitely enjoy doing this every week. My computer can't handle it, but Geist will be helping me to get a new one after we get GS running, and I'll gladly jump in with the rest of you then.

Looks like there are some good battle sequences. Wonder what the story will be based on though.

Hey, Heiden, good to hear from you. Sounds like things are staying plenty busy for you over there. Glad your enjoying it. What other planes do you get to see that come through? We're staying at it, trying to keep those pesky Allies off our favorite Mediterranean island.

Yeah, saw that. Hopefully they do something with the muzzle flashes. But the rest of it looks great.

A few days after the release of the UP 2.0n patch, they updated the patch to include some map fixes. It was not supposed to interfere with CRT=2, but it does, so we will be updated to the map fix version of 2.0n. You can download the patch here. Run the exe and direct it to your main IL-2 directory for extraction. Say "Yes to All" overwrites.

This is for those who are coming from a clean install of the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 DVD. That has version 4.07m. You will first need to update with the 4.08m patch, and then the 4.09m patch, before moving on to the mods. Once you are on 4.09m, you can fully install the Ultrapack mods up to version 2.0 by going here. Download the 7 parts to a new folder, so that those 7 parts and only those 7 parts are in it. During downloading, note the projected file size, and confirm that each file actually is that size when done. After downloading is complete, but before installing, check for file corruptions, using the test feature in WinRAR on the part 1 exe. If any parts are found to contain corruptions, trash and re-download those parts. Do this until it doesn't give you any corruption messages at the end. Now for installation, double click on the exe and let it extract. It will go through all the files, and then ask you to define the location for installation. If it's not on the main IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 directory with 4.09m, make it so, and install.

We're moving on to the 2.0n version of the UP mods. The patch installs over UP 2.0 or UP 2.0m. You can download the UP 2.0n patch here. Disable everything in the JSGME, then run the exe, and follow the installer's directions. Make sure you install it to the correct main IL-2 directory, and select 1 for the client install when it asks.

Yeah, any R-type loadout bombs won't release from the 1.58ata. The U-type loadouts are fine. And the R6 mortar rockets work, just not the bombs. It also puts a bomb on the ventral rack when you load the rockets, when it's not supposed to. Definitely something that needs fixed in a patch, but for our purposes, we won't be using any of those loadouts on that plane in FS.

This is now an obsolete step in the installation and update process. If you are up to version 4.09m of the game, move on to the UP 2.0 Full Install. The 2.0 patch for the UP has been out for a few days and it brings a number of changes in how we will be setting up our game. The whole process should be worked out finally, so we need to update our installs at this time. This patch installs over UP 1.8. You can download the UP 2.0 patch here. Download the 3 parts to a new folder, so that those 3 parts and only those 3 parts are in it. During downloading, note the projected file size, and confirm that each file actually is that size when done. After downloading is complete, but before installing, check for file corruptions, using the test feature in WinRAR on the part 1 exe. If any parts are found to contain corruptions, trash and re-download those parts. Do this until it doesn't give you any corruption messages at the end of the test. Prior to installing, you have to get your UP 1.8 install ready for update. Open the JSGME and deactivate all mods by moving them to the left side, leaving the right side list blank. Now for installation, double click on the exe and let it extract. It will go through all the files, and then ask you to define the location for installation. If it's not on the main IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 directory with UP 1.8, make it so, and install. It will say it can't install a couple of thumbs.db files, don't worry about that. Just click Exit when the installation is complete. Due to how additional mods are now handled, and the increased security checks, all mods now come in the form of a switchable JSGME mod. The old 'MODS' folder is obsolete, and it must be turned off by naming it '-MODS'. The installer actually emptied it out and turned it off automatically. For FS, we have already manually overwritten some files to make them FS compatible with UP 1.8. When you install the UP 2.0 patch, it will erase these FS files. If you have not reinstalled the FS pack from the zip that overwrites files, then you can skip the rest of this paragraph, and go to the FS JSGME step. If you have reinstalled the FS pack manually, then you will need to revert those files to stock UP form to comply with the new security checks, before you install the FS mods for the JSGME. So, to "un-FS" your UP 2.0, you first need to make sure that all JSGME mods are cleared to the left side. Then in your main IL-2 directory, navigate through Files\maps, find and delete the '_Tex' and 'vol_ItalyAfricaGreece' folders. Now download this zip file. Right click on it and select 'Extract files...', and navigate to your main IL-2 directory. Select it as the extraction destination, and it should prompt you to replace pre-existing files. Select 'Yes to All'. Finally you are ready to install the FS mods to the JSGME. Download this exe file. Run this, and if it's not directed to the main IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 directory with UP 2.0, make it so, and this will install the current FS mods to the proper folder for making them a selectable on/off mod like everything else. FS will be running the following mods with UP 2.0: 00_6DOF_Tracker_2_0_sHr 00_Atm_mod Original 01_Zuti_DSMod_v1.1 01_TougherBridges 03_Forgotten_Skies

Dan Shaw, a P-38 pilot in the Pacific Theater passed away in 2008, but at some time earlier recorded this account of a near fatal incident while bailing out. Well worth listening to. Part 1Part 2It seems like there is some part of the story missing from before and after what we hear, but you get most of the bailing experience.
