Probably still 2 years away. We'll be here if you change your mind.

We started back up on Friday after the holiday break, and last mission we were alone in the south again, and were outnumbered. It wouldn't have been too bad but they finally had really high cover. We've bloodied their noses a couple times down there in low altitude bounces. So they've learned, and we couldn't really go down to hit their attackers without exposing ourselves to Spits and 38s that the 190s can't do much with above 7K. Having even just a single 109, flying separately at the highest altitudes, but working with us, would help either occupy or push down their top cover and allow us to be more aggressive at medium/low altitudes where most of them are. Derring did a good job at it in the 190, but I'd much rather not have one of our regular 190s pulled away leaving only 2 or 3 of us in the main flight. Seriously, if you want to come fly a 109, you can work the rust off as you go. It can't be any worse than a non-existent 109. So if you feel up for it, jump on TS some night and we'll get the game set up. After Tuesday's mission, there will be 9 missions left before we go over to Allied, and then who knows where the next campaign will be. They're talking early Battle of France, Barbarossa, hypothetical Anglo-American vs Soviet, Arab-Israeli 1948, all kinds of stuff. Just brain storming at this point, but competitive 109s are around right now for a few weeks.

They merged the team's and are supposed to work on both ROF and new IL-2 together. Concerns are valid that the smaller market WWI will mean it takes a back seat to the WWII content. At the same time, having more people to work on things which share the same game engine might allow them to get more planes and maps out for both games. Overlapping workloads means some of it can be eliminated for a portion of the team, who can spend their time on stuff that otherwise would not have been done. I don't know much about the ROF engine first hand, but I keep hearing that the physics, graphics, damage model, etc are very good, but it lacks the game options and online multiplayer scope that even old IL-2 has, let alone what they were doing with CloD. My big hope is that the 1C team will bring those features into the existing and much more stable 777 game engine. That would be the best case scenario.

Yeah, Stachl, there's a thread on it at the GS forums. It's a bit of mixed news I think. Any progress on CloD is down the tubes. But maybe this is long term hope that a true sequel series to IL-2 will happen. We're still years away from replacing this game though.

Yeah, we're planning on moving GS to HSFX between stages of WOI, after both rounds of the Sicily part. As stated, you need to take a 4.10.1 stock (NO MODS) installation, and then put 4.11 and then 4.11.1 over it, and then do the HSFX 6.0 full install (multiple parts), and then patch that to HSFX 6.0.1. When I get the chance, I'll track down the link I downloaded them from and post back here on Wednesday.

I don't suppose you have a PSU for cheap? Going to be swapping mine in on warranty.

Now that we're between campaigns, it's time to get caught up with the latest UP patches. You can read about them here. On top of the initial UP 3.0 RC1, download and install RC2, RC3, and RC4. All three of them, in sequence. Clear your JSGME list, and backup your UP 3.0 RC1 install before updating through RC4.

UP 3.0 RC1 full torrent download has been released. The installation guide has been posted as well. It does NOT install as a patch over UP 2.01. I recommend you make a separate install from the DVD (4.07), and then patch up through 4.08, 4.09, 4.10, and 4.101. You cannot go directly from 4.09 to 4.101. Once on 4.101, install the entire UP 3.0 RC1 mod as directed in the guide. Make backups before updating.

As UP 3.0 is coming out, we need to prepare our game version for the new mod version. Update an unmodded 4.10 game version with this 4.101 patch.

Well, you found how to do it. Tools - Whisper List - New - Press key then name the whisper. But why it won't recognize your key stroke after clicking on New, I have no idea.

Yeah, doing what Heiden posted gives you a properly proportioned widescreen picture to your monitor resolution while flying, but it doesn't actually give you more visibility. In fact it gives you less. By making the image bigger so that it reaches the left and right sides, you actually get the normal 4:3 ratio top and bottom cut off. Out of game, in the GUI or FMB you get side bars along the default 4:3 image, since it wouldn't be functional to have the screen stretched out like when flying.
There is some mod that redoes the GUI and FMB and fills the screen fully left/right, using modded GUI images, without stretching it up/down, but it is CRT=2 sensitive. There is also some other mod, much more complicated I think, that does allow you to expand your in cockpit FOV past default (I think 90 degrees horizontal). But if you go much farther than that it makes the cockpit too small and you get a noticeable fisheye effect.

Besides looking 99% fantastic, the big thing I noticed is that the bombers are being sliced in half by small machine guns. Fortunately in the 1C forum post about this it's clarified that realistic gunnery was turned off in some scenes to get "the desired effect". So that's a relief. Other people pointed out the self casting shadows are turned off. It looks so good otherwise, I didn't notice. Going to be great when maxed out.

We've been using the GS server for our training since I have access to it. We may move back to Geist's servers in the future, but right now we're just using the GS ones, both TS and game.
Yeah, the 4.09 is what we're on. 4.10 is out, but it does not have any compatible UP mods. The UP guys are working on getting their pack working with 4.10. We'll update to it after that happens, but until then we're on 4.09 with UP 2.01.
It's been a while, but I think the 2.01 install is pretty much the same as the 2.0 full install was if you're coming from the stock game.

Yeah, we still have training every Thursday. Currently, we are on 4.09m with the UP2.01 mods. What version did you leave off with?

I'm certainly no expert, but from what I read the DX11 differences wouldn't show up too much in this game, even if it were able to run on it. The most noticeable visuals that DX11 introduces seem to really need to have been built into the game during early development, which IL-2:COD certainly didn't do. Unless you're playing a very newly developed DX11 game, it's not worth the money to buy a part just for that.
