This is now an obsolete step in the installation and update process. If you are up to version 4.09m of the game, move on to the UP 2.0 Full Install. We will be moving from AAA's UI 1.2 over to the UP 1.8 mod pack. It needs to be installed over the official 4.09m version. If you are going from a UI install to a UP install, you need to run the UI's version switcher to 4.08m un-modded. Then trash the Files and MODS folders. This will leave a few UI files in your main folder, but for all intents and purposes, you will have a functionally un-modded 4.08m install. Next, update to 4.09m, which you can get here. Note that this is NOT the 4.09m beta which the UI has been based on. This is different, and required to run the UP mods. Now you can download the UP 1.8 from here. Download the 7 parts to a new folder, so that those 7 parts and only those 7 parts are in it. During downloading, note the projected file size, and confirm that each file actually is that size when done. After downloading is complete, but before installing, check for file corruptions, using the test feature in WinRAR on the part 1 exe. If any parts are found to contain corruptions, trash and re-download those parts. Do this until it doesn't give you any corruption messages at the end. Now for installation, double click on the exe and let it extract. It will go through all the files, and then ask you to define the location for installation. If it's not on the main IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 directory with 4.09m, make it so, and install.

Although this patch has been out for a few months, we are only now switching to it, as our current mod pack is changing. Our mods are now compatible with and require the official 4.09m patch released by Team Daidalos. 4.09m can be downloaded from here.

Wotan's been working on adding planes to our FS install. You may want to ask him exactly how to do it manually. From what he's said, you seem to be on the right track with those files, but obviously something's missing.

Login to the AAA forum. After that go download all 8 parts of the UI version 1.2. If you are updating from 1.1, simply start at Step 3 in the AAA post. Download the 8 parts to a new folder, so that those 8 parts and only those 8 parts are in it. Carefully read the instructions in that thread. Keep an eye out to make sure that the files are properly finishing their download. Double check the file sizes. After downloading is complete, but before installing, check for file corruptions, which have been reported by many people. Use WinRAR. If you don't have it, you can get it from here. Download either the 32 bit or 64 bit version, depending on your operating system. If you don't know, check your System in the Control Panel. If it specifies Windows as 32 bit, or doesn't specify, then it's 32 bit. If it specifies Windows as 64 bit, then it's 64 bit. Once you have WinRAR installed, create a temporary folder. Go into the folder that you downloaded the UI 1.2 files to, and right click on the exe. Select Extract files...., navigate to your new temporary folder and click OK. It will take a few minutes to extract all of them, and if there are any file corruptions, it will notify you at the end of the process. If there are corruptions listed, look at the file path, and note which UI 1.2 parts are involved. Trash the temporary folder. Trash the UI 1.2 parts which had corrupted files. Download those parts again from a different mirror. Then run the file check again, just like before. Do this until it doesn't give you any corruption messages at the end. Then you can install it. In the folder which all parts are downloaded to, double click on the exe. When prompted, tell it where your main IL-2 folder is that you want to have modded, and click Install. Select Yes to All overwrites. When it's done, find and run the version switcher in your main IL-2 folder, and select select the appropriate 4.09b Mod version, depending on your TrackIR status, 6DOF or not.

Yeah, I know the Buchon allows for more flying "109s", a real rarity, but I've always hated it. It's not really a 109, looking like that with the wrong engine. I just recently discovered the 190 flying videos from the summer shows. First real performances by 190 radials that I've ever seen. Its absence has been a glaring hole in the warbird rotation and I'm very glad to see they have one flying from the Flugwerk guys, and the White 1 F-8 is coming along nicely too. The one going now has the ASh engine. White 1 will have a BMW.

Great video. Nice how the pilot dresses in what looks to be period appropriate equipment too.

Well, it was either a freak coincidence, or it was related to hosting with a different map statics file than the people had who were joining. That was when things went weird. And every attempt afterward would crash the game. Even after I reverted back to the files that everyone else had, it's like it broke something that couldn't be undone by simply taking a step back. I needed to start at the beginning and work my way up, by uninstalling and reinstalling everything. I'm just glad that worked.

Yeah, I've run some memory and registry checkers and what it found didn't fix it. Doing a game reinstall.

For those who were at training tonight, you know my issue. For those who weren't, basically the game crashes when the plane moves. I can load the mission and get in fine, spawning on the ground. Everything looks okay, no issues with graphics or sound. I start up, taxi for about 7 seconds and the screen freezes. Every time, different planes, different bases, different maps. When I tried an air spawn, the game simply crashed back to the desktop. I restarted, tried an air spawn again, but this time it gave me an error message before it crashed.
Anyone seen something like this before? Know what it is or how to fix the issue?

I think it's supposed to be in the 1.2 UI from AAA when that comes out too. The mod one would probably just have the AI flight model, whereas the one from Daidalos would presumably receive proper attention as an official flyable.

If you haven't seen this yet, it seems that official development of the IL-2 series has been picked up by a group called Team Daidalos. They will be completing the official 4.09 version that was left hanging eternally in beta status by Oleg, and supposedly additional versions are planned for the future. It will be interesting to see how this is done in parallel with, but separately from, continued mods. www.simhq.com/_air13/air_420a.html

Some of you have mentioned recently that you may be in the market for a new monitor. I recently bought one, and could not be happier with it. Best monitor in the price range by far. I have, and still do recommend getting it if you don't need something bigger than a 22 inch. There are coupon deals for it for the next few days that put it at $200.88, the lowest ever. As far as I know this monitor is the first and only to use the e-IPS panel type. Hopefully bigger models with it will come out down the road. For now it's the best combination of image quality, viewing angles, response time, and price you will find anywhere. If I sound like a commercial, it's because this purchase was probably the single best one I've ever made on PC hardware. So if you are ready for a new (22 inch) monitor, I'd say grab this one with the coupons before June is out. dealmac.com/Dell-Ultra-Sharp-2209-WA-22-Widescreen-LCD-Display-for-201-free-shipping/304818.html

Finally read through it. Good to hear him sound confident on the development stage and release time. Before it was always sort of a guess with too much work ahead to really know. Now it seems like we can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. Having Korea as the second release after BoB brings up some questions though. He mentioned that since they have the SoW engine done with the initial release, further expansions would take a about 18 months. So that's three years until the third one. For WWII, playing nothing but BoB for three years is going to get old. Relying on the third party stuff is going to save us, if it works out. In three years, who knows what SoW will expand into from the outside. I just hope there is some direction to it, instead of 20 pet projects that don't actually give the game a new cohesive chapter. The complexity required to be up to Oleg's standard is far beyond what the modders currently do. Some may be capable, but the time required will grow significantly. And the best ones are apparently being recruited to internal SoW work, so they'll be busy with Korea I suppose. I wonder if we will have enough people to do 3rd party expansion projects during the first 3 years, that are up to the certification level. Hopefully the SoW community will benefit from migratory MSFS people. Otherwise, it's going to be Emils and Spits for a long time.

Sorry for being quiet over there. Just been really busy with FS and rushing to put out our first upgrade tweaks to the mods for squad use. I'm sure we'll have a few fly this Saturday. I'll see if I can catch up on the CoT forums. 4 190s I wonder if they'll be in high demand. ;D

Certainly there are factors in this decision which we can't know yet, but my thinking right now is that we would not have an official parallel existence in RoF. That is not to say that at least most of us wouldn't get it and fly it together at times. But as far as having official stuff set up, website, stats, a serious regular unit commitment to online play, etc, my heart is really only in that stuff for WWII sims, which is why I started 3./JG51. Trying to do both in the same capacity would split time and effort and pretty much mean we couldn't do either one very well. IL-2/FS and eventually SoW (someday) will always be the clear primary purpose of this unit. But that doesn't mean we can't call ourselves Jasta 51 and shooting up some Sopwiths every now and then.

Yep, I don't think mine would handle it right now either. At the rate things are going, this will be the trigger for at least a serious upgrade, if not totally new rig, well before we see SoW.

ww2.dk/air/jagd/jg51.htm has it a little different, but it has 3./JG51 at Wjasma-Süd from Nov 18, 1942 to Jan 6, 1943, then a couple other bases until Byansk in March. Either way, we get to play us for the 42/43 Winter Moscow Phase I.

Mods have been around for about a year already, but they have finally cleared the usage standards that are required by Forgotten Skies to take advantage of them. With today's release of AAA's 1.1 installer, we will officially be changing our version of the game from 4.08m to modded 4.09m beta. This gives us access to many new aircraft, maps, and game features. You must register on and login to the AAA forum in order to download the UI 1.1 installation parts. After that go download all 8 parts of the UI version 1.1. Keep an eye out to make sure that the files are properly finishing their download. Double check the file sizes. Download ALL of the files to a folder on your hard drive Make sure ALL of the files stay together within the same folder Installation Instructions: 1. Double left click the file 'AAA_Community_Installer_ver_1_1_part01.exe' NOTE: You only need to run/install the first part (part01) as long as you keep all the files together you can ignore all the other parts 2. Once opened Left-Click on the Browse button and Select your IL-2 1946 4.08m game folder. Selecting OK and Left-Click the Install button. 3. When prompted to overwrite files select Yes to all
